The Works

She works on a simple principle every person has a unique mental and physical disposition. So his needs are different too, says Sonica Krishan, an Ayurveda and lifestyle consultant and writer. The author of Herbal Healers,Home Remedies, which released last year, has just come out with another book on self-healing tips, Healing Through Ayurveda (Rupa,Rs 150). For the past 15 years, Krishan has been studying and practising the natural ways of healing,be it through diet, herbs and yoga. I am not only a practitioner, but also a promoter of Ayurveda, and believe we all can be healthier with some dietary and lifestyle modifications, smiles Krishan, who has used her experience and research to advise people in understanding their body type. In her previous book, Herbal Healers, Home Remedies, she introduced 50 kitchen herbs to cure common ailments.

Diversities in Focus

Even in a single family, all members have diverse personalities. People differ not only in looks and mental temperament, but also in attitude, tastes, reactions and abilities, explains Krishan, adding how Ayurveda holds the key to categorise oneself based on internal mechanism. It is all about the play of vatta, pitta and kapha the three primary body doshas. Knowing which dosha is dominant, why it gets aggravated, what illness is caused and how it can be balanced, can help us take care of our bodies, she adds.

In the book Krishan uses a questionnaire to identify ones personality, understand our actions and reactions and restore natural well-being. Through diet charts, different yoga postures and breathing techniques, the book also explains the benefits of various therapies like colour, massage, meditation. The idea is to reach out to as many people as possible, she concludes.
