Ear infections are called in Ayurveda text mainly by the names Karna Roga (Ear disease) or Putikarna (Pus formation in the ear). The symptoms may include discomfort, irritation, itching, swelling, redness and tenderness in the external ear. As other symptoms, there may be pain in the ears with or without ear discharge or sometimes fever as also another symptom.

Ayurveda believes that the ear infection or disease mainly results from distortion in the Ayurveda doshas, mainly the Vata or Kapha doshas.

Herbs and Home Remedies for Ear Infections

1. Onion juice is to be extracted by crushing and pounding the onion bulbs along with some water. This is then warmed and filtered through a clean muslin cloth. This juice may be used as ear drops in case of ear infection.

2. The herb of Basil or Tulsi is also gifted with antiseptic and natural anti-infective properties. The Basil juice extracted by pounding fresh leaves of the herb of Basil may be used as ear drops for relief from ear infections. 
3. There is another effective herbal home remedy that can be of help when suffering from ear maladies. Leaves of the herb of Sudarshan are to be heated on fire. These are then removed and crushed and the juice thus produced is to be dropped (3 drops approx.) in each ear.
4. Roots of Bilva or Bael are to be pounded and boiled in mustard oil. This is to be filtered and then used as ear drops.
5. As another home remedy for ear infections, you can burn some cloves of garlic in mustard oil or coconut oil. This medicated oil is to be filtered and used as local application for relieving ear problems. Although, in case there is perforation of the ear drum, using of ear drops of the oil is prohibited.
                                      

Note: Do not try these home remedies if you are allergic to any of the mentioned ingredients.
