The word ‘Marma’ comes from the derivation of Sanskrit phrase, ‘Marayate eeti marmani’ which means that any kind of hurt, injury or infliction at the specific subtle areas may result into serious damage or even death and therefore these areas are called Marma. When we are in the state of health and balance, life force energy or Prana flows freely through the body channels. Whereas, as and when Prana become blocked within our body systems, or due to building up of ama which represents mental, physical and spiritual toxins, this eventually lays ground for disease formation. And when therapeutically the marmas or distinctive points are pressed or massaged, this activates the energy centres and thus helps considerably to release the blockages and releases the flow of Prana and subsequently exhibits healing and healthiness.
